First in Three is part of Northern Stage's creative residencies programme – giving established and emerging artists the chance to try out work in a collaborative and informal environment. It has been going for three years and in that time has showcased over 100 new performances from theatre through comedy to dance and all that exists in-between!

For one night only we want to ask one specific question of the artists who are submitting work – what does the North mean to you? No definitions. No rules. No map. No answers. Just a question.

It doesn't mean that you have to be from the North. Or have even travelled North. What is North anyway? The usual submission process applies.
