My Secret Heart
My Secret Heart is a music and film installation written by electronic composer and Warp artist Mira Calix, video artists Flat-e and sound designer Dave Sheppard. They worked with around 100 Streetwise performers from across the UK to create a unique work which you can experience at Northern Stage as an immersive 360 degree installation.
Inspired by the Allegri’s 17th-century choral work Miserere Mei (a piece so protected by the Vatican that they put an embargo on it) Mira Calix and Flat-e used the theme of secrecy to explore movements and singing with Streetwise participants.
‘Inspired and inspiring’ Guardian (4 stars)

Winner of the Royal Philharmonic Society Music Award (Audience Development)
Mira Calix shortlisted for British Composer Awards
Streetwise Opera works in 11 homeless centres around the country in London, Luton, Nottingham, Newcastle, Manchester and Middlesbrough running a weekly music programme. Each year they work towards a major show with their performers at venues such as the Almeida Theatre and Westminster Abbey.
The composer Mira Calix and the video artists Flat-e also worked with all the groups to create My Secret Heart.
